Primary red-blue-yellow plus white gouache on my sprayed tin palette and finding out what colours I can blend.Putting them in the sketchbook – I was trying to reduce my plain air kit to bare minimum. We will see what happens.

When I find an image or location to paint, putting into a sketchbook is my initial step.

Yellow – Cyan – Red – White gouache. Old tin pencil box sprayed white.

10 mins later – surface is good for mixing paint – I can incorporate this mixing area and lid into my pochade box.

It is like a jigsaw puzzle, bringing together all the different elements- having a number of notebooks on the go at once helps – akin to story boarding.
