Results Image I experimented with different materials for the covers – denim, leather, suede, canvas. The watercolour paper is 140lbs/300gsm – a mixture of hot and colder pressed. Time to field test them – plein air.
Sewing frame Image Just figuring out the basic dimensions – and using the materials I had at hand. Next I will route out a groove on the base between the posts – for the cord or tape. I would like to make some wooden posts to replace the threaded rod – but for the moment this should work well.
Making Image Made an awl from an old screwdriver – the cradle from a piece of hardwood. I found the design from the net and learning by doing – I still need to build a sewing frame and a press. Dipping my toes into the intriguing and beautiful art of book binding – an old illustrator still learning.

Hard backed watercolour sketchbook Image A few shots of the first watercolour sketchbook in the making – hardbacked with leather cover – paper is 140lb hot pressed. I have a few more to make with different paper – this is working out pretty well.
Little studies Image At 5″x7″ on blue card these studies were fun – I will use a gesso coated hardboard next – that surface being more robust
