With these quick sketches I rarely go back and adjust anything at a later date, however before starting the night scene below I looked up and knew that “smoke” needed more contrast – so a couple of minutes later it was done – and to be honest looked better for it.
I run out of time after 15mins – these studies were intended to be just value/ shape/ shadow outlines, however sometimes I get lost in the detail and then it goes south. Put it down and move on.
The sketch taught me how much more I have to study – and the importance of keeping the colours pure – patience with allowing them to dry – so much more
